Skincare has become one of my favorite things in the morning and it’s one thing I do not skimp on. Prior to having kids, I did pretty basic skincare. Then the beginning of December of 2019, all the sudden I was developing big patches of eczema and acne on my face. 3 weeks later, I found out I was pregnant and that explained it all! Since then I have gone through numerous amounts of products to figure out what works best for me. As soon as I think I figured it I’d get pregnant, start nursing again means different eating habits for me and honestly working in the wireless industry taught me a few things too. I’m finally done with pregnancies, almost at the end of my nursing journey with my 16mth old son (hopefully, we’re on our first week of really weaning) and no major flare ups for the 2 years. So now that you know half of my life’s story, let’s chat about some of my faves and why I use them.
#1 Face Wash!
I double cleanse always with Elemis Sensitive Cleansing and Revision Brightening Facial Wash or PMD Cleanse: Soothing Antioxidant Cleanser. I switch back and forth so my face doesn’t get used to one thing and each one does something different. I love the sensitive cleansers for my skin since it’s both oily and dry and the Revision Brightening Face Wash, I use only 2-3 times a week. The brightening wash will definitely dry your face out if you use it too much and your skin is not use to it. You have to work your way up to using it more often, but I’m telling you this was my holy grail to get my face cleared up from sunspots and acne scars from pregnancies. I have also been using the PMD Clean Smart Silicone Brush for the last few years and love that you don’t have to worry about bacteria like other face brushes.
#2 Mist/Toner
I usually use a toner from but this go around I tried Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Hydro-Mist and while I like it, for me I think I like a toner better. Toners will always calm my skin + hydrate and refresh regardless of having makeup on or not. As soon as my mist is gone, I’m either going back to my PMD Soothe: Multivitiam Nourshing Toner or trying the Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner.
#3 Face Oil
Face oil was one of the first beauty products I added to my skincare regimen. I have constantly used it for 4 years now. I ran out of the one I was last using around thanksgiving and never placed another order, then of course we all got sick again in December and hated my skin everyday I was out of the oil. Of course, I started running out of other products too so it just made my skin very angry. I will never go without my face oil/serums again, truly. I love the Colleen Rothschild Face Oil No.9 and the current fave is Elemis Superfood Facial Oil.
#4 Moisturizer
I have been using the Colleen Rothschild Sheer Renewal Cream for a couple years now. I love how lightweight it is but still thick enough to keep my skin moisturized. I also use 2-3 other moisturizers on any given day so I like to build them up. But truly this is a perfect face cream for those summer months or if you don’t like a heavy cream.
#5 SPF
I have been using the cult classic Tula Protect + Glow SPF. I can not find anything else that compares. I’ve been using it for almost 4 years now. I live by this stuff. Just on it’s own it’s amazing but perfect for my multi layers of products. It’s so dewy and light but is a protectant from pollution and blue lights. It’s so important to wear SPF everyday, even on days you’re not in the sun! The devices we stare at all day emit blue lights that can cause wrinkles, skin cancer, age spots. Also why wearing some sort of blue light glasses whether it’s in your prescription glasses or you order some to wear just while you’re on your phone or computer all day. (Fun fact; blue light glasses will help reduce headaches, fatigue and tired eyes – Trust I’ve been through it working in the tech industry and have gotten to hear from some of the top eye doctors in the world). All that to say, protecting your skin is just as important from UV Rays and blue lights as it is your eyes. In the summer my face (and body) are lathered in SPF now a days. I do not play around with my skin like I used to when I was younger and just bask in the sun with no SPF. #youngandfoolish Trust me and if you add one thing to your skincare regimen, it’s the Tula Protect + Glow.
#6 Extra Moisturizers
This is where I add the extra moisturizers and SPF to my skincare. Sometimes it’s one extra, sometimes it’s 3! Hahah But the additional moisturizers just add to my glowing skincare routine. These 2 additional moisturizers are new to my lineup as of the beginning of the year and I will tell you they are going to be my faves for awhile. I actually stocked up on one of them when I bought it in January without trying it! I used to use Supergoop! Glow Screen -which don’t get me wrong is still one of my favorites, but I’ve been using it the past 4 1/2 years I wanted to try something new. The first new product is the Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturizer. It’s SOOO PRETTY!!! The pearly shine isn’t over the top, it’s such a good find for these upcoming Spring + Summer months, it is hydrating and would be perfect just on it’s own. The 2nd new fave of mine is Cay Skin’s Isle Glow Face Moisturizer SPF 45 with Sea Moss and Niacinamide . Winnie Harlow, is the founder of Cay Skin and this moisturizer is truly chef’s kiss for ANY skin color and any skin type. This product gives off no white cast, will be perfect as a base for summer months when you just want a glowy sun-kissed face, add some blush, mascara and gloss and your set for a day out or date night in the cutest outfit.
I know this was a lot but I’m so passionate about a good skincare routine. I’ve always loved the glowy-dewy look but it would end up so greasy or pill up in certain spots throughout the day, so to have found products that work for my combination skin and in time for the summer months makes me so happy I had to share it in my little space on the internet. If there is something you try from my routine, let me know!
